The City of Guanajuato is an easy place to fall in love with. At least, we both did! Its colorful hill-side neighborhoods, its festivals and artistic events, the warm and tranquil atmosphere, and its beautiful people will lull you in a  romantic embrace. It’s a place full of magic and unique colonial architecture in neoclassical and baroque styles. You will navigate this former mining town through it’s labyrinth of underground streets and above-ground alleyways. Guanajuato is a city one experiences in three dimensions. You might feel at times like you are inside of Escher’s mind, or perhaps one of his works of art.

And speaking of art, it is everywhere in Guanajuato. Galleries line the streets and alleyways there, and there are more art museums than one has time to explore. Of distinction is the former residence-turned-museum and birthplace of Diego Rivera, Mexico’s most distinguished of its great muralists. The month of October sees the city transform into the staging ground for the International Cervantes Festival. The month-long arts festival includes every art form imaginable with a predominant focus on theatre and music. Whether it’s the arts, the colonial architecture, the fascinating mining ruins and remnants, or the festive vibe of this city, you will leave somewhat enchanted.
